Online drop-in weekly Yoga Class.

Timings: 10am to 11:15am

Cost £7 per session

Pre-book 6 sessions for the price of 5.

Over the course we will build on a series of simple movements which can all be integrated into your daily life.

By bringing attention to our muscles and synchronising the breath, the mind falls quiet. Once the mind is quiet we begin to discover who we really are.

Each class will include:
-

Asana (simple postures) to help restore balance in our physical body.

Pranayama (simple breath awareness – not breathing exercises) When the breath wanders the mind is unsteady, therefore bringing balance to the breath by simple observation brings stillness in the mind.

Deep relaxation Letting go isn’t meant to be easy! It’s a long process that can be accomplished through dedicated yoga practice.

The course is suitable for everyone regardless of age, ability, or previous experience. You have an option of sitting on a chair and doing these practices.

Cost: This course is being offered at £7 per session. You can book for a single session or more than one.

Meditation – What? How? Why? Who?

An online meeting to introduce this ancient, authentic mantra-based system of meditation which has been practised in India and elsewhere for centuries, what it is, how it can help, why it is so relevant today, and who it is suitable for.

Most people assume that their mind is too busy to enable them to meditate. It’s not what you think. Find out more.

The meeting is online on 27th May at 2pm and is free of charge.

The illustrated talk will describe the simple practice of meditation and will outline its benefits.

There will be plenty of opportunity for questions.

Click the Yellow Button above to book a place via Eventbrite.  Once you have registered we’ll send you the Zoom link and password.

If you have not used Zoom before you will be prompted to download the necessary software when you click on the link we will send. It is quite straightforward but please allow a little extra time for this step.

Meditation – Follow-up Meeting

For those who take up meditation, the philosophy school offers free, one-to-one, lifetime support given by experienced meditators, to encourage simplicity in practice and to give practical advice as needed.

In this follow-up meeting you will find out more about the introduction ceremony, its format and significance. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions.

There is no charge for the meeting but donations to cover the cost of refreshments would be welcome. Click the Yellow Button above to book a place via Eventbrite – you will need the password ‘mantra’.

In the busyness of everyday life it’s easy to lose your bearings, to get things out of proportion, just because everything is too close in.

Then you lose the enjoyment of simple things and everything becomes a chore or a challenge – needlessly.

It’s not easy to take time out, but the benefits are beyond measure. By taking a step back you see things more clearly, the things that can be changed and the things that actually don’t need changing.

All you need is some breathing space, peaceful surroundings and a friendly group of like-minded people who, like you, want to make a difference in their lives and who are looking for answers to deep, unvoiced questions.

Online Upanishads Study Weekend                     18th and 19th March

The Upanishads, an ancient selection of passages from the Vedas, describe in very simple terms, through stories and dialogues, the purest form of the Advaita teaching (Teaching of Unity).

On this weekend our study will be focused on one of these Upanishads, the Katha Upanishad.

In this text, Nachiketas, who has been banished by his father, meets Yama (death) and demands to be told the secret of immortality. Yama tries hard to distract him with offers of riches and power but Nachiketas is steadfast and pursues his enquiries until he gets what he wants!

During the weekend, we will hear Nachiketas’ story  and look at the English translation of some key passages in Yama’s explanation of Vedic teaching. We will also refer back to the original Sanskrit to enlarge our understanding. Knowledge of Sanskrit is not necessary as full guidance into the meanings of words will be provided during the study.

We will also be chanting some important verses in Sanskrit and will have  a chance to reflect quietly on their meaning.

All philosophy students are welcome to attend, and attendance can be for either day or both days.

The meetings will take place by Zoom with 3 sessions a day, from 9am to 10:15 am, 10:45 am to noon and 2pm to 3 pm.

The charge is £30 for the full weekend.

To enrol click on the Book a Place button to take you to the Eventbrite booking page. You will need the password Katha.

The present moment

“This course ‘woke me up’, particularly to the present moment. Learning to use the ‘full stop’ between daily events and pausing, rather than everything running in to one continuum”

Very practical

“I have thoroughly enjoyed this course. It has been very practical and has given me lots of tools and exercises to use in my daily life. Coming back each week and feeding back to the group has reinforced what I have learned and given me extra pointers”.
