We’re An Educational Charity

The Philosophy School is a registered Educational Charity (No: 313115), a not-for-profit organisation. We keep our fees as low as possible so that the philosophy classes are accessible to as many people in the North West as possible.

The school runs entirely on goodwill. It is ‘staffed’ by volunteers: tutors, admin, maintenance and service teams give their time freely because they appreciate how much the wisdom taught in the school has given a new dimension to their lives. So service and community are at the heart of what we are about.

We make sure that we cover our daily costs but it means that there isn’t surplus for major building repairs and new projects.

Our branch is one of the largest in the UK but we would love to see its work expand further, to enrich more lives in the North West. Your donation, however small or large, will help us to realise this vision.

How Our Courses Work

A tutor presents material, and leads a discussion based on what arises. Being practical rather than academic, the emphasis is on personal knowledge. Students are encouraged neither to accept nor reject the ideas put forward, but to test them in practice for themselves, in the light of their own experience.

Frequently asked questions about our courses
