Shakespeare Study Days at Brinscall Hall
28th – 30th December 2026
In this, our 37th year of Shakespeare study at Christmas, we will be studying ‘The Tempest’.
Whether you are revisiting this wonderful play or meeting its text for the first time, our informal gathering offers a relaxed company to explore Prospero’s island. Through thoughtful, open conversation, we can examine key scenes and share our views at a comfortable pace.
Over three days, we will explore some of the great themes of Shakespeare’s The Tempest: betrayal and forgiveness, freedom and servitude, illusion and reality, and the possibility of reconciliation.
Through the characters and their encounters, Shakespeare invites us to consider the forces that govern human behaviour, the struggle between our higher and lower natures, and what it might mean to let go of resentment and discover true freedom.
The play offers rich material for philosophical enquiry, reflection and discussion, raising questions about human nature and the conduct of life that remain as important today as they were in Shakespeare’s time.
No prior academic background in drama is required—just an appreciation for literature and a desire for engaging conversation with fellow students.
Please have a copy of the play with you.
Attendance will be in person only and the charge for each day is £25 which includes lunch and refreshments.
Each day will commence at 9.30 am and finish around 4.30 pm.
